Kutcha Edwards, a proud Mutti Mutti, Yorta Yorta, and Nari Nari Songman, has been blending music and activism since the 1990s. As one of Australia’s most respected Indigenous singer-songwriters, Kutcha’s work resonates deeply with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, sharing heartfelt truths, connection, and belonging through his songs and stories.
A survivor of the Stolen Generations, Kutcha’s journey of reconnection to his Mutti Mutti heritage has shaped his music and activism. His creative output spans five solo albums, theatre shows, and the beloved TV series Kutcha’s Koorioke, where he shares stories and songs with Aboriginal legends and emerging artists.
Kutcha’s latest album, Circling Time, is a profound reflection on his life’s highs and lows, featuring powerful tracks like Singing Up Country and Mrs Edwards. His music transcends genres, blending ‘Bidgee’ blues with traditional songs, creating connections across cultures and generations.
Beyond music, Kutcha’s work in radio and prisons, including the award-winning Beyond the Bars broadcasts, amplifies the voices of the voiceless. His empathy and understanding, born from his own experiences, foster cultural awareness and self-knowledge.
Kutcha Edwards is more than a songwriter; he is a Songman, drawing on ancestral wisdom and life experiences to inspire love, family, and connection to Country. His music is a universal rhythm that unites us all.
“Music is not what I do, it is who I am. My songs may be contemporary but they are over 40,000 years old. They come through me from my ancestors and my people and they tell our stories.”
